Portable Document Format (PDF) & ISO 32000-1

PDF is a portable format for electronic document distribution, visualization and printing, regardless of platform (operating system, viewing and printing devices), or of the application used to create the document, preservating fidelity to the original document: formatting, fonts, colors, imagens and graphics.

The PDF format is compact and the documents can be viewed and printed correctly and precisely, with a free Adobe Acrobat Reader, available for a wide variety of operating systems. With Adobe Acrobat software, the author can insert many facilities for navigation and hipertext, as well as multimedia features, into the document.

  • Adobe Reader SpeedUp
    Adobe Reader SpeedUp significantly decreases the amount of time required for Adobe Acrobat/Reader to start by disabling most of the least used plugins. Plugins can be freely enabled and disabled, if required. SpeedUp Currently supports free and full versions of Adobe Acrobat and Reader versions 3 to 6.   • RedMon - Redirection Port Monitor
    Transparent PostScript printing from Windows 95/98 and NT. The RedMon port monitor redirects a special printer port to a program. RedMon is commonly used with Ghostscript and a non-PostScript printer to emulate a PostScript printer.

PDF/Archive (PDF/A) - ISO 19005

PDF/A is a subset of PDF format addressing long-term archiving and preservation of electronic documents. PDF/A standard is developed by AIIM and NPES, and published as international standard, since October 2005, as ISO 19005. The ISO 19005 Part 1 (19005-1:2005) standard is based on PDF Version 1.4 format. The PDF/A Part 2 is under development and should be beased on PDF Version 1.6 and better address matters such as digital signature, JPEG 2000 image compression, Open Type fonts, 3D graphics, transparency, layers and audio/video content, as well as better consistency with PDF/X (Impress�o gr�fica), PDF/E (Engeneering) and PDF/UA (Universal Accessibility) formats.
